My Journey
Where it all began
We were so excited but at the same time so shocked. Pregnancy mode kicked in, at the time I smoked so I stopped smoking straight away, stopped drinking etc.. I hadn't booked my gyane appointment yet but planned on. Two weeks later on a Saturday night, I started to bleed. My heart literally sank… I had no idea what to do, had no one to phone, at this stage we hadn't really told anyone and I didn't have any close friends that had children yet. We rushed to the ER, the gynae on call said he wasn’t sure what the problem was, gave me progesterone and told me to see my gyane first thing on Monday morning, which I did. We discovered I had miscarried.
At the age of 26, this really hurt, I told those I had to - my mom, best friend and work because I was a mess. Only in the last year did I become more open about this experience.
This obviously put us off for a while, but I stayed off birth control. A year or two passed and we were ready and at the same time questioned why it hadn’t really happened yet as we had unprotected sex for the last 2 years. We decided to go beyond just my gyane who seemed to think all was ok and see a fertility specialist, I Googled and found one of the top specialists near home, Dr. A. Off we went and saw him in January 2015.
Dr. A was a rather odd individual but honestly speaking we wanted babies we didn't really care what he was like personally. He did all the bloods, checks etc. and all seemed ok but he did want me to go for additional tests worth R10,000 and his reasoning as to why made absolutely no sense what so ever. We decided to give it a really good go and steer away from doctors and drugs and do it the good old fashioned so downloaded several apps, peed on MANY ovulation sticks and off we went. We gave ourselves until the end of the year. By September… nothing. We then agreed to go the fertility route and a friend suggested Dr. B, someone she knew had great success with him.
Dr. B could see us in January 2016. This is when it got REAL!
